Cinematics Director at Electronic Arts, Richard Taylor,
joins Gnomon’s board.

HOLLYWOOD, CA – September 20, 2007 – Gnomon School of Visual Effects is proud to announce that Richard Taylor, a visual effects luminary for over 30 years, has joined Gnomon as a member of their Advisory Board.  Richard brings a rich and diverse background in live action direction, production design, special effects and computer generated images for theatrical films, television commercials and computer games to the extensive mix of talent that makes up Gnomon’s well known Advisory Board.

“We couldn’t be more flattered or thrilled to have someone such as Richard serving on our board,” says Gnomon’s Director of Advancement, Pam Hogarth.  “His judgment and experience will be an invaluable addition to this wonderfully dedicated group of individuals.”

An award-winning director of TV commercials in his formidable days, Richard has worked in nearly every aspect of the entertainment industry, including, in 1980, working as the creative director for one of the first companies to produce computer generated images for film and television, called Information International Inc.  He then went on to produce the first commercial to ever receive a Clio for computer animation, Atari’s Worm War One.  This was the first of ten total Clios, as well as two HUGOS and two MOBIUS AWARDS won by Richard.

“It’s an honor to serve on Gnomon’s Advisory Board,” explains Richard.  “I’d really like to do what I can to help Gnomon by participating in some student reviews.  Reviewing student portfolios is something I enjoy, as I feel I can give them a real objective overview and practical suggestions as to how they might improve their presentations.  Having done this in the past for several schools, it’s always been a fun experience and the feedback has been well-received”

Educated at the University of Utah, with a BFA in painting and drawing, Richard has worked professionally at studios such as Rhythm and Hues and BeachHouse Films as a director.  Aside from directing commercials and game cinematics, Richard creates original art that has been featured in table-top books on computer art.  His work is represented by Phillips Gallery.

Richard’s commercial clients include: 7UP, Kelloggs, Reebok, Disney Cruise Lines, UPS, Honda and Bud Light, just to name a few.  He has worked on projects such as Walt Disney’s Tron, the film that introduced America to the world of computer simulation and later the Tron 2.0 PC Game, Something Wicked This Way Comes and Where the Wild Things Are.

Richard is now Cinematics Director at Electronic Arts Los Angeles where he has designed and directed the cinematic sequences for Lord of the Rings; Battle for Middle Earth, Battle for Middle Earth II and Command and Conquer 3 Thibirium Wars.
